Who are sound sensitive dogs?

Dogs who are sound sensitive struggle to cope with certain noises. Usually sudden loud noises, though not always. Does this sound like your dog?

Maybe they have a fireworks phobia, maybe they tremble when there’s thunder? Or bolt when a bird scarer goes off nearby? Or maybe there is another type of sound that bothers them in some way.

Whatever the sound and whatever their response, you want to help your dog and lessen that impact for them.

It can be hard to know what to do when you have a dog who is scared of sounds. Some dogs who have noise phobias are only frightened of one type of sound, some dogs are more generally sensitive to a range of different noises.

Without treatment, if your dog isn’t able to cope, it is likely that the fears will get worse over time, and may start to include more and more types of sounds.

Many dogs become more sound sensitive as they age. They can feel more vulnerable, and aches and pains can make stress worse; and vice versa.

So jumping in and supporting your dog early on will help your dog now, and minimise future issues.
