Building confidence and focus in dogs!

Many dogs, especially young and/or anxious dogs can struggle with managing their emotions. This can mean they find it difficult to cope or settle in a variety of situations. Providing physical activities which encourage and reward focus on what their body is doing and slows down their mind to focus on one activity can help to build emotional control. Using proprioception for dogs to build focus and confidence isa fun option!

In agility, or flyball, where speed is the name of the game. Proprioception for dogs is all about thinking about what’s under their feet, and how they are moving their body.

What is proprioception for dogs?

Proprioception is about what parts of your body are doing and where they are in relation to the environment. Improving proprioception improves spatial awareness which can help to channel focus and improve self control and confidence.

Check out the video below for some simple ideas of how to set up a proprioceptive course for dogs. Plus dos and donts that our dogs can teach us as we learn from them in return!
